Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026

1. Who we are

Hive (operating at tryhive.app) is a community learning marketplace where instructors build courses and communities, and students learn skills. This policy explains what data Hive collects, how it is used, who it is shared with, and the choices you have over your information. If you have questions, email support@tryhive.app.

2. Information we collect

When you create an account we collect your name, email address, chosen role, and profile details you add such as a photo and bio. When you use the platform we collect information about the courses you enroll in, your lesson progress, quiz and assignment submissions, community activity, messages, reviews, purchases, and certificates. We also collect basic technical data such as your IP address, browser type, and device information to keep the service secure and reliable.

3. Google account data we access

If you choose to sign in with Google, we access your Google basic profile only: your name, email address, and profile picture. We request no other Google data. We do not access your Gmail messages, Google Drive files, Google Calendar, contacts, or any other Google service data. The limited profile data we receive is used solely to create or sign you into your Hive account and to display your name and photo where you appear on the platform.

4. How we use your information

We use your information to run the platform and improve it: to create and authenticate your account, enroll you in courses and communities, process payments and refunds, record your progress, deliver certificates, connect you with instructors and other learners, and send service messages such as verification codes, receipts, and updates you have asked for. We use Google sign-in data only to provide the sign-in feature you requested.

We do not use your personal information for targeted advertising, and we do not sell it to data brokers, information resellers, or any third party. We do not use your data to determine credit-worthiness or for lending purposes. We do not use Google user data to develop, improve, or train artificial intelligence or machine learning models.

5. How we share information

We share personal information only where it is needed to provide the service or where the law requires it. Service providers who help us operate Hive receive the minimum data needed to do their work: Amazon Web Services hosts our servers and storage, our email provider delivers transactional messages, and our payment processor (Paystack) handles card and bank payments. These providers are bound by their own data protection commitments and may not use your data for their own purposes. We do not transfer or disclose Google user data to third parties for advertising, resale, credit, lending, or AI and ML training purposes.

6. How we protect your information

We use security procedures to protect the confidentiality of your data. Passwords are stored as salted, memory-hard hashes and are never kept in readable form. All traffic to and from the platform is encrypted in transit with TLS, and data at rest is protected by the security controls of our cloud provider. Access to production systems is restricted to authorised staff only. We request no sensitive Google scopes, which means we never receive sensitive Google data such as your email content or private files.

7. Data retention and deletion

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active and for the period needed to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, provide receipts and certificates, and meet legal or tax obligations. When a retention period ends, we delete or anonymise the data. You can request deletion of your account and your data at any time by emailing support@tryhive.app; we will delete your personal information within 30 days unless we are required by law to keep part of it. Deleting your account removes your ability to sign in, and your credentials, profile, and personal content are removed from the platform.

8. Your rights and choices

You can view and update your profile from your dashboard at any time. You can choose to sign in with email, Google, or Facebook, and you are never required to connect a Google or Facebook account. You can request a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct inaccurate information, or ask us to delete your account by emailing support@tryhive.app. We will respond to every request within 48 hours.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the platform grows or as legal requirements change. If we change how we use Google user data, we will update this page and notify users before the change takes effect. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.

10. Contact
